Goat Milk: Having proven benefits for quick recovery in Dengue
While the fast approaching monsoons are a much-needed respite from the scorching heat, they also bring along with them a plethora of monsoon-related maladies. The most dreaded among these ailments is Dengue, which affects 50 to 100 million annually. What makes this illness even deadlier is the absence of a vaccination or any outlined treatment. In the past few years, a couple of supporting treatments have clearly been identified, which have worked effectively in treating Dengue. The list includes Goat milk as the main supporting treatment apart from Papaya leaves and Giloy juice. According to a paper published in the JOURNAL OF PHARMACEUTICAL AND BIOMEDICAL SCIENCES by Department of Pharmaceutical Technology, Meerut Institute of Engineering and Technology, Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, India, Goat milk and its products are proving to be highly beneficial in curing this ailment.
It states that the deficiency of Selenium and reduced platelet count are some of the complications of Dengue fever. Apart from other direct benefits, Goat milk has nearly 27% more of Selenium. Selenium is needed for the proper functioning of the immune system, and can also be a key nutrient in counteracting the development of viruses, which in turn helps in the recovery of a dengue patient. Goat milk can be prescribed to a patient with the intention to maintain body fluid balance, as platelet transfusion if required from outside may not be possible in all cases.
Other than increasing platelet count, goat milk offers a myriad of other benefits that help in curing Dengue. Goat milk increases iron bioavailability. This helps in recovering after ferropenic nutritional anaemia by increasing iron deposition in the target organs. Goat milk aids in the digestive and metabolic utilization of several minerals such as iron, calcium, phosphorous and magnesium.
Apart from all the scientific facts even ancient Ayurveda clearly advocates the consumption of goat milk for treating Dengue.
So the next time you see someone struggling with Dengue don’t hesitate in conveying the benefits of Goat milk for a quick recovery.
